Aluminium hydroxide: how to take it safely

What it is for
Quick relief of heartburn and indigestion.
How to take it
Shake the liquid well. Chew tablets thoroughly, then take a sip of water.
When to take it
Take it after meals and at bedtime, or when symptoms come on.
Take it with
1 hour after meals for best effect.
What to avoid
- Taking other medicines at the same time. Leave 2 hours between an antacid and other medicines.
- Using it daily for weeks without seeing a doctor.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems.
Possible side effects
Constipation, chalky taste, loss of appetite.
