Benznidazole: how to take it safely

What it is for
Treats Chagas disease (infection from the kissing bug).
How to take it
- Prescription medicine: take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist told you.
- Swallow with water, with food.
- Take it for the full course, often 60 days.
When to take it
Take it 2 to 3 times a day, at evenly spaced times.
Take it with
With food.
What to avoid
- Alcohol.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Stopping early.
Possible side effects
Rash, nausea, loss of appetite, numbness or tingling, weight loss.
Get help if
Severe rash, blistering skin, fever, numbness or tingling, or unusual bruising: stop it and see a doctor.
