Cholestyramine: how to take it safely

What it is for
Lowers cholesterol and relieves itching in some liver conditions.
How to take it
- Prescription medicine: take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist told you.
- Mix the powder with water, juice or soft food. Never swallow it dry.
- Drink plenty of fluids.

Take it with meals, as prescribed.

What to avoid
- Taking other medicines at the same time. Take them at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after it.
- Constipation. Eat enough fibre and drink fluids.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.
Possible side effects
Constipation, bloating, wind, nausea.
