Ezetimibe: how to take it safely

What it is for
Lowers cholesterol by reducing how much is absorbed from food. It is often used with a statin.
How to take it
- Prescription medicine: take it exactly as your doctor or pharmacist told you.
- Swallow once a day with water.
- It works best when taken every day, long term.
When to take it
Take it at the same time each day.
Take it with
With or without food.
What to avoid
- Taking it within 2 hours before or 4 hours after cholestyramine.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tell your doctor if you may be pregnant.
Possible side effects
Stomach pain, diarrhoea, tiredness, headache.
